Web Data Monitor — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-16
1. Overview
Web Data Monitor (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension published by phiez.com. Pick any value on a website and monitor it in a tiny dashboard — no code, no selectors. It re-reads the value on the schedule you choose and shows the history and the change. This policy explains what data the Extension handles and how.
2. Data we handle
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome’s storage APIs:
- Your trackers: the name you give, the address and title of the page, how to find the element (a CSS/XPath selector and a short fingerprint of the element: tag, id, classes, a snippet of its text, some attributes, nearby label text), parser options, interval and schedule
- The text of the element you selected, as it appeared on the page, and its parsed number
- History: every reading (text, number, time, page address), deleted automatically after the retention period you choose (7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 1 year; default 30 days)
- Update log: time, result and error message of each update (most recent 500), shown in Debug mode
- Settings (theme, notifications, background updating, retention, debug mode)
- A short-lived list of the temporary tabs the Extension opened (session storage), cleared when the browser closes
This data stays in your browser. You can remove it at any time by clearing the Extension’s data or uninstalling the Extension.
3. What you select
The Extension stores only the elements you select. If you select text that contains personal or sensitive information, that text is stored on your device like any other value — so please choose accordingly. It does not store or transmit your passwords, cookies, form entries or any page content other than the elements you selected.
4. Websites you monitor
- Access is yours to grant. The Extension has no website access at install. When you choose to monitor a site, Chrome asks you to allow that one site (permission http://… or https://… for that origin only). You can remove it any time at chrome://extensions → Web Data Monitor → Details → Site access.
- Updates look like normal visits. To update a tracker the Extension reads the page in a tab you already have open (so it uses your own logged-in session) or, if the tab is closed and your settings allow it, briefly opens the page in a background tab and closes it again. The website receives an ordinary page visit from your browser, as if you had opened the page yourself, and may log it.
- Local page checks. While reading a page the Extension checks locally whether it shows a sign-in form, a CAPTCHA or an access-denied message so it can tell you. Nothing from that check leaves your device. The Extension does not try to bypass sign-in pages, CAPTCHAs or blocks.
- Open tabs. To find a tab that is already open on a monitored page, the Extension compares the address of your open tabs with your trackers’ addresses, on your device. Addresses of other tabs are not stored, logged or sent.
5. Data collection and sharing
The Extension does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal or browsing data with us or with any third party. It does not use analytics, advertising or tracking services, and it does not load or execute remote code.
6. Permissions
The Extension requests only the permissions needed for its single purpose:
- storage — Save your trackers and settings locally (chrome.storage.local, plus a small list of temporary tabs in chrome.storage.session).
- alarms — Wake the Extension once a minute to run the trackers that are due.
- tabs — Read the active tab’s address to start the picker and request site access; find and reuse an open tab of a monitored page; open and close temporary background tabs; focus a page on “Open Website”. Tab addresses are only compared on your device and are never stored, logged or sent.
- scripting — Inject the Extension’s own bundled script on demand to show the picker and read the selected element.
- activeTab — Start the picker on the page you are looking at.
- notifications — Show a notification when a value changes.
- sidePanel — Show the pinned side panel.
- Optional access to http://*/* and https://*/* — Re-read the chosen element on sites you choose, one site at a time, only after you allow it. Never granted at install.
7. Your control
- Delete a tracker (trash icon) to delete its history. “Clear history” removes a tracker’s readings but keeps the tracker.
- Pause a tracker, turn off notifications or turn off background updating in Settings.
- Revoke site access at chrome://extensions.
- Uninstalling the Extension removes its stored data from your browser.
8. Compliance
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the Extension’s single purpose and is not used for unrelated purposes, creditworthiness or lending decisions.
9. Children
The Extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised. Material changes — in particular any new data handling or new permission — will be described here before they ship.
